Departmental Research & Development Facility
The Cain Department of Chemical Engineering has a fully-staffed research and development facility referred to as the "ChemE Shop." The research and development facility staff is experienced in the design and fabrication of experimental equipment for the department with over $1.5 million worth of equipment available. It is equipped with CNC turning, CNC milling, automated surface grinding, water-jet, laser engraver, overarm spindle polisher, and all conventional machine shop equipment. The staff is experienced in design software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCad, and the latest CAD/CAM software.
ChE Computing
Our resources include LAN with more than 120 PCs and one network administrator.
The undergraduate student labs include teaching experiments utilizing control systems from Nation Instruments, Fisher-Rosemont, and Honeywell TPS.
The department also has extensive experimental and diagnostic facilities in the areas of environmental processes, catalytic and solid-state surface characterization, and materials processing.
Specialized Facilities
LSU Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD)
Center for Advanced Microstructures & Devices—a synchrotron radiation source in the
UV and X-ray regions for analytical techniques such as XAFS/XANES, UPS high resolution
XRD, microtomography, and microfabrication.
LSU High Performance Computing (HPC)
High Performance Computing—graduate students have access to Intel Sandy Bridge- and
Ivy Bridge-based supercomputers delivering a combined performance exceeding 1 Petaflop.
