Energy Program

The LSU Energy Program is designed to provide the broad skills and knowledge needed by the next generation of energy professionals. Students will take classes specific to the energy sector and be provided a wide range of learning opportunities, including site visits, access to speakers in the industry, case competitions, energy conferences and expos, and industry-related internships.

Energy Minor

The curriculum for the energy minor includes energy economics, geology, petroleum accounting, energy trading, real estate, and an overview course. The minor is open to all LSU undergraduate students. Students are provided a wide range of learning opportunities, including site visits, access to speakers in the industry, case competitions, energy conferences and expos, and industry-related internships.

To graduate with a minor in energy, students must complete 15 hours consisting of the following courses: GEOL 1001; GEOL 1003 or GEOL 2020; FIN 3351; and six hours chosen from: ECON 4320; ECON 4325; ENVS 4261; FIN 3718; ENTR 4050; ISDS 4160; or a faculty advisor-approved energy elective.

Students must have a 2.0 GPA in the courses used to satisfy the minor. At least nine semester hours must be taken on this campus.

Flores MBA Energy Specialization

Flores MBA students can pursue the energy specialization through electives courses in mineral rights, energy law, finance, and analytics. Students are exposed to the energy industry through site visits, case competitions, speakers, conferences and expos, and industry-related internships.

Flores MBA students choose from electives that include an overview course, as well as classes in mineral rights, energy law, finance, and analytics.
Students must have a 3.0 GPA in the courses used to satisfy the specialization. All nine hours must be taken on LSU’s campus.
Students are provided a wide range of learning opportunities, including site visits, access to speakers in the industry, case competitions, energy conferences and expos, and industry-related internships.
