Biography
I received my PhD in Sociology from LSU in December 2016 and began teaching as an adjunct instructor in the sociology department the following semester. My dissertation research used a critical race framework to study a local neighborhood sports program, and my interests are at the intersection of race and ethnicity, community development, and sports sociology. One of my favorite places is the college classroom, and I have enjoyed teaching courses in Social Problems, Introduction to Sociology, and Research Methods in Sociology as well as tutoring college students in a wide range of social science courses. Most of my courses include opportunities for students to become engaged with the local (off-campus) community in Baton Rouge because this gives students the opportunity to apply what they are learning and to use their education to make a positive contribution to our society. Aside from teaching, I also work for an organization called SportQuest, where I am an administrator and coach for a youth soccer program, team chaplain for youth football and basketball teams, and director of a large summer sports camp in Baton Rouge. SportQuest also gives me the chance to travel in the US and overseas to train other sports outreach workers and lead sports clinics.
