John Nauright, PhD, Named Director of the LSU School of Kinesiology

BATON ROUGE, LA – The LSU College of Human Sciences & Education announces John Nauright, PhD, as director of the LSU School of Kinesiology and will also serve as the Karen Wax Schmitt and Family Endowed Professor. Nauright will assume his role on June 1.
“I am thrilled to return to Louisiana and especially to LSU. I have had a life-long love affair with the state, the university and with Cajun and Creole culture,” said LSU School of Kinesiology Director John Nauright. “The School of Kinesiology is producing incredible and impactful research that measures up to other leading programs around the world. My goal is for the School to geaux further in changing lives and to be recognized consistently among the top global programs for kinesiology and sport management.”
Nauright, who was born in Louisiana, brings a wealth of global experience to LSU and the School having lived and worked in eight countries. He has held leadership positions at several highly regarded international universities in Australia, the USA and UK, and he is a dual US/Australian citizen. Nauright is the author and editor of 26 books including the award-winning works Sports Around the World; Making Men: Rugby and Masculine Identity; and Rugby and the South African Nation. He has also authored more than 150 refereed works in the areas of sport management; sport studies; sport, tourism and event management; and physical education.
His current research focuses on the dynamic global development of women’s sports and on the issue of sport and integral ecology. He has extensive industry and consulting experience including service on numerous advisory boards including the World Tourism Association for Culture and Heritage; the John Paul II Foundation for Sport; Sacred Sports Foundation; and the Center for Responsible Tourism. Nauright is also currently involved with supporting the creation of the first fully professional women’s rugby competition in the USA. He is a member of the International Network of Doping Research and has held visiting professorships at universities in the Caribbean, China, Denmark, Ghana, India, Russia and the Ukraine. His PhD is from Queen’s University in Canada.

Dr. Nauright will do an outstanding job stewarding our Flagship mission as well our college mission to improve quality of life across the lifespan.”
